First Grade News #3
Just a few notes from the second week!
*Thank you to those who could attend Meet the Teacher night. It was a success and it was great to see all of you!
*We have been getting used to our schedule in the classroom. We had our first library day on Thursday. The first graders are allowed to pick books off of the shelves! This is an exciting and new thing for us!
*We had our first spelling test on Friday. We will develop test-taking skills as the year goes on.
*It occurred to me that I haven’t really shared any information about myself this year. My name is Ms. Tara DeWitt and I am from Galesburg. I graduated from WIU with a BA in Elementary Education in May of 2007. I am certified to teach Kindergarten up through 9th grade. I was Mrs. Brahmstedt’s student teacher in May ’07, and then was hired to be a second kindergarten teacher for the following year. As you know, I have moved up to first grade.
As some of you may know, I am a Staff Sergeant in the Air National Guard. I am based out of Peoria, IL. I joined the Air Force to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps and have now completed my 6-year enlistment. My official release date is 9-2-10 and I am relieved to be finished with my commitment. I am proud to serve my country, but now I will have more time to focus on teaching!
I am also very passionate about theatre. I have been involved in the theatre for the past 14 years. Currently, I am on the board of directors for Prairie Players Civic Theatre in Galesburg.
I currently live in Galesburg with my snake and two cats. My mother, father, sister, and niece are also in Galesburg. My niece, Kiara, is in 3rd grade and I can’t believe how big she is getting!
Have a great weekend,
Ms. DeWitt
