Kindernews #6 for 2009-2010: Meal Account Records, Health Fair, Education Points, AIMS Web Assessment, White Milk for Snacks, Interact Readers, Halloween at School
1) The Meal Account Records will be sent every-other-week this year, and may be
printed on white paper, so watch for them.
2) The children attended a Health Fair by the Canton Graham Hospital School of
Nursing students. Some of the topics covered were Halloween Safety, Helmet Safety,
Dental Health, Poisons, and Anti-Bullying Situations.
3) Education Points are being collected again this school year. Cut them off cereal,
Kleenex, popcorn, etc. boxes and send them to school, please. The kindergarten has
brought in the most points so far, so Thanks, Parents!
4) AIMS Web Assessments were given to all the students in the elementary school, at
the beginning of the school year. These assessments will be given repeatedly
throughout the year. The main skill assessed the first time was letter names, both
capital and lower-case. Children who had difficulty are being given additional help to
learn them. As the year progresses, the students who go to Mrs. Shamblin for more
help, may change, as the children become more and more skilled in the literacy
concepts.
5) The Kindergarten is going to adopt the Preschool policy of having white milk
with snacks and a choice of chocolate or white milk at lunch. This will begin on
Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
6) The Kindergarten will have three Interact Literacy Readers coming to read to
them on Mondays this year. These three girls are providing a community service
to meet one of the requirements of being an Interact Club member.
7) Halloween at School will be a little different this year. First, as stated in the school
newsletter that was sent to you through the mail, the costume parade will begin at 8:30
a.m. Therefore, students may come to school dressed in their costume. However, they
will need to bring street clothes to put on, after the parade. The parties will begin,
when the children return to the classroom upon completing the parade route to the
high school, through the junior high school, into the elementary gym, and back to the
classroom. A committee of parents is working on planning fun activities for the
children of our class. J
8) We had a visit from the Avon Firefighters during fire prevention week.
Thanks for helping the children of our class with homework and kindergarten skills. Working together, we will make a difference in their education.
Mrs. B.
