First Grade News #7 October 2, 2009 Math- We have begun our math facts. We started with doubles 0 through 5. In our math series, it teaches a “Doubles Rap”! See if your child can “rap” to you at home!  Doubles Rap It’s the doubles, baby, let’s go, let’s go! It’s the doubles, baby, and we start with zero: 0 + 0 = 0 Oh! 1 + 1 = 2 Oooooh! 2 + 2 = 4 More! 3 + 3 = 6 Kicks! 4 + 4 = 8 That’s great! 5 + 5 = 10 Again! They had a ball with this!  Starting next week, I will be taking points off of papers for No Names. We have had many weeks to practice our responsibilities, and they should be getting the hang of it by now. Having consequences will help them to remember the things that are expected of them in the classroom. Also, students serve 5 minutes at recess if they forget to turn their homework in. Five points are taken off of late papers. ***Remember: Next Friday, Oct. 9th: NO SCHOOL! It is a teacher’s institute day. Also, NO SCHOOL on Monday, Oct. 12th due to Columbus Day. Keep sending BOX TOPS! We have 114 so far! Reminders: We have snack at 11:00am and there are 14 students. We eat lunch at 12:21pm. Library days are Thursdays. Keep reading those AR Books! As always, thanks for your help and support, Ms. DeWitt 
